Background/overview

As discussed in this lesson, discussion groups by their nature carry news that can be more current than what you may find in some of your key sites. Since this is a course on searching and searching services, this is one area you can follow through Newsgroups as well as with the Web searching resources listed in a previous lesson.

Instructions

  1. Using your knowledge of advanced search query techniques, search the discussion groups at large for any comments involving a new search engine or directory.
  2. If you come across one that looks interesting, go to it and try a search. Evaluate how well claims made in the discussion group(s) match your own experience.
  3. If discussion groups interest you as a source of searching news and tips, you may want to note one or more discussion groups in which you would be likely to find frequent discussions on this topic.
